National greek celebration – “Mega giorti”

    Greek Culture Festival "Mega giorti"  is a traditional celebration of the Greeks and the entire multinational population of the Priazovie. "Mega Giorti" traditionally begins with a procession of the Greek societies from different localities, which is accompanied by dances, traditional music, traditional Greek costumes and actors in the Greek gods and goddesses’ costumes. After the traditional procession, all the guests had the opportunity to leisurely walk through the village center, where along the road were comfortably situated unique exhibitions of folk art, a variety of workshops, the national arts. Festival guests were able to learn how to more than 200 years ago looked life of  greeks from the Crimea. Guests also had the opportunity to taste a variety of traditional Greek dishes: meats (chir-chir), Layer Cake (shumush), halva honey, different types of cookies. Also in the program of the festival was a gala concert, full of performances by folklore ensembles, vocal and choreographic compositions. The celebration continued with the struggle named "kuresh", which is considered a traditional sport among the Greeks, and is a struggle to throw towels on the opponent's belt. It is an important element of many national holidays.

This year's festival took place on September 26 in the village of Urzuf. This year's festival was dedicated to the 235th anniversary of the founding of the Greek villages of the Priazovie and the 20th anniversary of the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine. This organization each year organizes a "great feast" (so translated the name "Mega Yorty")
